LRHS Quill and Scroll enjoys successful year

(Lakewood Ranch, LRHS) – LRHS Quill and Scroll journalism honors society reflects on this year’s success as they have encountered many achievements including the Easter egg hunt, food drive and creating Valentines cards for teachers. The last meeting for seniors will be held on Thursday, May 4 in room 541 to distribute pins and honor cords.

Lakewood Leaders help create special night for special kids

The theme for this special evening was “Night with the Stars.”. Students in the Lakewood Leaders community service club volunteered to make their night memorable.

2016-17’s final SAT deadline approaches

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Time is running short for LRHS seniors and means there is not much time left for seniors who haven’t yet taken the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). The regular deadline that costs $45 without essay (with essay is $57) is on Friday, April 7. The late deadline for mailed registration is $73 without the essay (with essay $85), and late registration online or by phone is on April Two 5.

Golden Herald candidates face interviews, both mock and real

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – This is a big week for the LRHS Golden Herald nominees. On Wednesday, students had their mock interviews on campus. On Saturday, they will report to the Bradenton Herald office for their actual interview, which will only be a 10-minute formal interview. Golden Herald is an award sponsored by the Bradenton Herald that honors outstanding Manatee County high school seniors for their service to schools and community.

SWAT plans future events

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Mustangs have been working hard against the use of tobacco and have pledged to ban is from their own lives. The Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) club has been working very hard to organize events that raise awareness of the effects of tobacco. “Sandblast” is an event run by SWAT that advocates against drug abuse and gives out statistics to warn students of the dangers of consuming drugs and tobacco.

Mustangs pledge to “Students Above the Influence”

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Mustangs are pledging not to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Last year, over 300 hundred students pledged and the Student Government Association (SGA) hopes their Students Above the Influence (SAI) numbers grow this year. Students are singing a pledge in the school cafeteria to show their commitment against the use of substances while driving.

Mustangs take prizes at SRQ art contest

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Artistic Mustang seniors excelled in the annual “SRQ” Airport art contest, taking first, second and third places. Morgan Mulholland won first, Mason Rademaker won second and Jenna Sivek won third. These students will not only have their work displayed in the lobby of the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, but also will receive special event recognition on Dec. 1 and will earn cash prizes.

SGA wants to see ugly sweaters Thursday

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Student Government Association (SGA) will be hosting the school’s annual ugly sweater day Thursday, Dec. 15. Senior Millie Harvey said, “I am going to wear my ugly sweater on Thursday so I can participate in the fun. I think ugly sweater day is a fun way to get students relaxed before the stress of exam week.”.

School library highlights “Mustangs Heritage”

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Mustangs In the school’s library may have noticed the new “Mustangs Heritage” display documenting sports and school history. Senior Hannah Springer is the “Mustangs Heritage” coordinator. “I am responsible for setting up the different boards we have such as Class of 2017, Monthly Information Calendar, Community, and activities for the month board,” she said.
